Add and Manage Trees

Plot trees on a job's map, record species, DBH, and health, keep a journal, and review the whole inventory in one report.

Trees live on client locations — each property keeps its own numbered tree list, shared by every job at that location. You add and edit trees from a job's map, so the inventory grows naturally while you estimate and perform work.

Add a tree from a job's map

  1. Open a job at the property and switch to its Map tab. The Tree Inventory Map opens centered on the location, with Trees and General Markers tabs and a Trees on this Property list.
  2. Click + Add Tree. The map prompts: "Click on the map to place the new tree."
  3. Click the tree's exact spot. The tree form opens in the side drawer:
    • Plant Species (required) — search the species list, which shows common and scientific names. If yours isn't listed, use the typed text as a custom species.
    • Mark Color — the pin color, handy for matching physical tree marking paint or flagging priorities.
    • Location on Property — a short description like "NE corner by the gate".
    • Notes
    • DBH (inches) — trunk diameter at breast height.
    • Health (%) — a 0–100 condition score.
  4. Click Save. The tree gets the next number at that property and appears as a numbered pin.

You can also jump here from the estimate: the + Add Tree button in the estimate's Tree column opens the map with the add action pre-selected. Trees added while working in the map keep a smaller field set — the drawer notes that more detail is available from the estimate page.

When you're done, use Save and Return to Job (or Return to Job if nothing changed).

Edit, archive, or delete a tree

Click a tree's pin or its row in Trees on this Property to open its detail drawer, then Edit Details to change any field. To remove a tree, click Delete Tree and choose:

  • Archive (soft-delete) — preserves the tree's history but removes it from the active map. This is the normal choice.
  • Hard Delete (permanent) — only available to account owners.

If archiving leaves gaps in the numbering, Renumber Trees compacts the numbers. Line items keep their tree linkage — only the displayed numbers change.

Keep a journal

Each tree's Tree History tab includes a Journal: dated entries with a note and an optional photo. Click + Add Entry, set the Date, describe what you observed — pest activity, structural defects, before/after work — and click Add Photo to attach a picture (PNG, JPEG, or WebP, up to 5 MB). Over time the journal becomes the tree's care record, one entry per visit.

Review the whole inventory

With Tree Inventory enabled, a Tree Inventory entry appears in the sidebar (and a Tree Inventory Report under Reports — both open the same report). It lists every tree across your client base with filters for Species, Health threshold (for example, Health ≤ 60% to find declining trees), and Client. Use Columns to pick fields — species, scientific name, DBH, health, notes, and the client's address and contact details — then Export CSV to hand the list to a consulting arborist, or Save for All Users to share your filter setup.

Note: If the report is empty, the empty state says it directly: "Add a tree from any job's map page to see it here."
