Capture Trees From Your Phone

Walk a property, photograph each tree, and let BranchSite queue everything up — including when there is no signal.

Capture is the one-handed screen for standing in a yard. Point, press, walk to the next tree. Nothing waits on the network.

Opening it

From My Day, open today's stop and tap Capture. From a job's Tree Map, tap Capture in the top bar. Both open the same screen for that property.

You need the Field Capture feature turned on for your company and permission to add trees. If you do not see the button, ask an owner to check Settings → Features.

The screen

  • The header counts what you have captured here this session, how many photos are still uploading, and how good the GPS fix is right now (±8 m). "No GPS fix" means the phone has not found you yet — keep capturing, the position is attached as soon as it arrives.
  • The shutter is the big button at the bottom.
  • Same tree attaches the next photo to the tree you just captured instead of starting a new one. It resets after each photo, so press it again for a third angle.
  • Quality / Speed chooses how the photo is taken. Quality (camera app) hands off to your phone's own camera — better pictures, an extra tap. Speed (in-app) uses the preview built into the page — faster, slightly plainer photos. Android starts on Speed, iPhone on Quality. Your choice is remembered on that handset.
  • Done returns you to the map.

Nothing is lost when the signal is

Every press is written to the phone before anything is sent. If you walk out of coverage, drop the phone, or close the app, the captures are still there. Each row shows where it is:

StatusWhat it means
QueuedSaved on the phone, waiting its turn
UploadingBeing sent now
SavedOn the server; the tree has its number
RetryingA send failed; it will try again on its own

A Retry button appears on a row that is stuck. You can also leave the property — the queue keeps going in the background, and the chip on My Day shows anything still waiting. Come back later and the captures will have gone up.

Waiting for GPS on a row means the photo is safe but has no position yet. Stand still for a moment, or tap Use current position on the row once you have a fix.

Fixing a pin

If a tree lands in the wrong place, open it on the map and drag the pin, or — while you are still standing at the tree — tap Use current position on its row in the capture list.

What happens to the photos

Each captured tree gets a placeholder species and a photo in its journal. If Photo analysis is on for your company, BranchSite looks at each photo in the background and proposes a species, condition and size estimates for you to confirm. Nothing is written to the tree until a person presses Confirm. See Voice notes and photo analysis: what is sent where.
