Route Planner Settings

The account, driver, and yard-address settings that control how the Route Planner behaves.

Route Planner behavior is configured in three places: the account-wide Routing settings page, per-driver route settings on the Members page, and the yard/depot address on each Operation. This article walks through all three.

Account settings: the Routing page

Open Settings, then the Routing page ("Route Planner availability, defaults, and behavior"). Changes take effect after you save.

  • Enable Route Planner — the master switch. When off, the Route Planner page is unavailable and its sidebar item is hidden.
  • Enable route optimization — adds the Optimize route action to each lane and Optimize All Routes to the top bar. Optimization calls an external routing service and a per-call cost applies.
  • Default visit length when optimizing — the per-stop service time (15 minutes to 4 hours) used when items don't supply a labor estimate.
  • Use labor hours for visit length — when on, the optimizer uses each line item's labor estimate instead of the default length.
  • Honor route capacities — shows the per-lane capacity badge, comparing each driver's scheduled quantity against their cap. See Route capacity.
  • Require an operation filter — forces dispatchers to pick at least one Operation in Filters before the unscheduled list loads and drag-and-drop is allowed. Useful for companies whose divisions plan routes separately.
  • Pin overlap zoom — how aggressively overlapping map pins are grouped: Neighborhood, City, or State.
  • Route sheet document template — the PDF template used by the Email route and route sheet download actions. Pick a Route Sheet template; see Document templates.
  • Show days since last visit — pins, tooltips, and chip badges include the number of days since the location was last completed. Handy for maintenance work where "how long has it been?" drives scheduling.

Driver settings: member route settings

Each driver has route settings of their own. On the Members page, open the member and click Edit route settings…:

  • Include in Route Planner — when on, the driver appears in the Add Drivers dialog and can receive route assignments. Drivers with this off never show up in the planner.
  • Default operation — the Operation used to pre-filter the planner's work pool for this driver, and the source of the yard address their optimized routes start and end at.
  • Crew size — how many people ride with this driver. Route optimization and the calendar use it to calculate expected visit length from labor hours.
  • Route capacity — the total per-day quantity this driver can handle, used by the capacity badge when Honor route capacities is on.

Yard / depot address

Optimized routes start and end at the yard address of the driver's default operation, so each Operation that runs routes needs one. On the Operations page, open the operation and find the Yard / depot address section:

  1. Start typing in the address search box, or use the Couldn't find your yard? link to enter the address manually.
  2. Check the Map preview — drag the pin to fine-tune the geocoded location if it landed slightly off.
  3. Save. You'll see Yard address saved.

Until the yard address is set and geocoded, optimization skips that operation's drivers with a "Route Operation is not yet geocoded" warning. Individual drivers can still override their start and end per route with Set Route Start/End Location on the lane menu — see Optimize routes.

Column defaults

The unscheduled list's Columns menu includes Save for All Users, which stores the current column layout as the account default. Members who saved a personal layout with Save for Me keep theirs; everyone else follows the account default.
