Client and Job Holds
Pause a client or a job, record why, and find held work later.
Sometimes work needs to pause without ending — a client hasn't paid, a permit is pending, a customer asked you to wait until spring. Holds let you flag that pause explicitly, with a required reason, instead of letting the record quietly go stale. Both clients and jobs can be put on hold, and each requires its own permission.
Put a client on hold
- Open the client and open the actions menu in the header.
- Choose Put on hold.
- Enter a Reason — it's required — and click Put on hold.
The client's status badge changes to On hold, and the client's sales rep receives a notification with your reason. The record stays fully usable; the hold is a visible flag for your team, not a lock.
To release it, open the same menu and choose Take off hold. The client returns to Active.
Find held clients
On the Clients page, open the Filter panel and turn on Show on hold only. The same panel also has Show inactive clients and Show archived toggles if you're cleaning up the whole list.
Put a job on hold
Jobs have their own hold, independent of the client's:
- From the job's page (or a job row's action menu on the Jobs page), choose Put on hold….
- Enter a Reason — required here too — and click Put on hold.
Held jobs stay visible to everyone but skip operational scheduling, so they don't clutter the work you're actively planning. The job shows an On hold marker on its page, on the Jobs list, and on the client's Jobs tab. Choose Take off hold to resume the job's normal stage flow.
Find held jobs
On the Jobs page, use the Show on-hold only filter to see everything that's paused — a quick way to review stalled work in a weekly cleanup.
Automatic holds for deposit jobs
If your account requires deposits, you can have BranchSite hold those jobs for you: in job settings, enable Jobs requiring deposits should be on-hold by default. Deposit-enabled jobs are then put on hold automatically until the deposit is recorded, and released automatically once it is. See Deposits and prepay.
Hold vs. archive
- Hold is temporary: the record stays active-adjacent and you expect to resume.
- Archive removes a client or job from day-to-day lists entirely. Both live in the same actions menu; both are reversible (Unarchive), but archive is the right choice when the relationship or job is genuinely over.
