Custom Inputs on Jobs
Fill your company's custom fields on jobs, line items, and visits, and control where they show up.
Custom Inputs are fields your company defines — Lead Source, Square Footage, Gate Code, Species — that BranchSite injects into its standard forms. An admin creates them in Setup (see custom inputs); this article covers what filling them looks like on jobs, line items, and visits.
On the job form
Job-level custom inputs appear on the New job and Edit job forms in two places:
- Inputs marked Important are pinned above the Estimate section, so the fields your workflow depends on can't be missed.
- Everything else appears below the estimate, grouped by the Section its definition assigns (definitions without a section land under a general heading).
The field itself matches the definition's input type — Text, Long Text, Checkbox, Date, Date & Time, Time, or Dropdown. Dropdowns can be multi-select (several options at once) and searchable (a type-ahead picker for long option lists). Values can also be typed — numbers, currency, or percent — which matters when an input feeds pricing formulas or reporting.
A few behaviors come from the definition rather than the form:
- Required inputs are flagged with a required indicator so they don't get skipped.
- Roles That Can Edit restricts editing to certain roles — others see the field read-only.
- Definitions scoped to specific Operations only appear on jobs in those operations.
On the job detail page
Inputs whose definition has Show on Visit page turned on also appear read-only in a Custom Inputs card on the job's Overview tab. Inputs without that flag stay form-only — captured and stored, but not part of the detail-page summary.
On line items
Line-item custom inputs live inside the estimate, in one of two places depending on the definition:
- Important line-item inputs get their own column on the estimate table, next to the standard columns — right for a measurement you enter on every line.
- All other line-item inputs sit in the per-row inspector: open a line's chevron and fill them under Additional line item inputs.
Line-item inputs are how per-line measurements (linear feet, DBH, stem count) get captured where pricing formulas and reports can use them.
On visits
Visit-level custom inputs are filled when you create or edit a visit — the visit form includes them alongside the schedule and assignee fields — and, with Show on Visit page on, they display on the visit's detail view. They're the right home for per-occurrence facts: completion condition, on-site contact, per-visit readings. Crews encounter them when working visits; see My Day for crews.
Note: Deleting a custom input in Setup is a soft-delete — values already stored on your jobs and visits remain intact; the field just stops appearing on forms.
