Units of Measure

Define the units your items are measured and sold in, and manage them safely.

Units of measure (UoMs) describe how an item is counted — hours, square feet, cubic yards, each, gallons. Every item needs at least one, and units flow through everywhere quantity matters: estimate lines, production rate formulas, and inventory.

Create a unit of measure

  1. Open the Items page and switch to the Units of Measure tab.
  2. Click + New.
  3. Enter a Label (for example, Square Feet) and an Abbreviation (for example, sq ft).
  4. Click Save.

The tab lists each unit with its Label, Abbreviation, how many things it's Used by, and whether it's Active. Use the search box or the Show inactive toggle to find older units.

Where units are used

  • Items — every item must have at least one unit of measure, selected in the item form's Units & Operation section. When the item is added to a job, the line uses one of the item's units.
  • Production Rates — each rate declares an output unit of measure, and it can only be attached to items that include that unit. See Production rates.
  • Job line items — each line carries a unit so quantities on proposals, work orders, and invoices are unambiguous.
  • Roll-tracked inventory — items tracked by roll use a linear unit of measure (such as Linear Feet) for the roll-quantity axis.

Note: Keep the list short and consistent. Two spellings of the same unit ("sq ft" and "SF") will fragment your reporting and make production rates harder to reuse.

Edit, archive, and delete

Use the Actions menu on a row to Edit, Archive, Restore, or Delete a unit. Select multiple rows to use Archive selected.

Deletion is reference-safe: a unit that is not referenced by any items, production rates, or job line items is permanently deleted. A unit that is in use is archived instead — it disappears from pickers but everything that already uses it keeps working. Restore an archived unit any time by turning on Show inactive and choosing Restore.
