Pricing Tools

Default price, cost, and margin — plus quantity-based pricing tiers by volume, customer type, and operation.

Every item starts with a Default Price and Default Cost, and BranchSite shows the resulting Margin % as you type. For items where one flat rate isn't enough — bulk discounts, commercial vs. residential rates, different pricing per division — turn on Quantity Based Pricing.

Price, cost, and margin

Set Default Price and Default Cost in the Pricing section of the item form. The Margin % field is calculated for you as the gross margin: (price − cost) ÷ price. When the item is added to a job, the line starts from these defaults; estimators can still adjust individual lines.

To raise or lower prices across many items at once, see Update costs and prices.

Quantity Based Pricing

Quantity Based Pricing (QBP) replaces the flat default price with a tier table. The right tier is chosen automatically on each estimate line based on how much is being sold, who it's for, and which operation the job belongs to.

Turn it on

  1. Open an item and find the Quantity Based Pricing section.
  2. Check Enable quantity-based pricing.
  3. Choose Price by:
    • Unit price — the tier's price is charged per unit.
    • Line total — the tier's price is the whole line's total, regardless of quantity within the tier.
  4. Optionally set a Minimum line total — a floor the line's total never drops below.
  5. Click Add line for each tier and fill in the columns:
    • Customer type — restrict the tier to one client type, or leave it as Any.
    • Operation — restrict the tier to one operation, or leave it as Any.
    • Min quantity — the smallest quantity this tier applies to.
    • Price and Cost — the tier's pricing (each row needs at least one of the two).
  6. Click Save.

How the right tier is picked

When the item lands on an estimate line, BranchSite looks at the job's client and operation plus the line's quantity, keeps only the tiers that match, and then picks the most specific one — a tier naming the exact customer type or operation beats an Any tier, and among equally specific tiers the deepest quantity break wins. If no tier matches, the line falls back to the item's default price and cost. Pricing re-resolves as the quantity changes, and the Minimum line total floor is applied last.

Example

A mulch item priced by unit could have tiers at Min quantity 0 → $95, 10 → $85, and 20 → $75. A 25-yard line prices at $75 per yard; a 5-yard line at $95. Add a row with Customer type set to Commercial to give commercial clients their own rates without touching the rest.

Markup-based pricing

BranchSite does not have a per-item percentage-markup or cost-plus setting in the catalog — margins live in the price and cost you set on each item or tier. Cost-plus and percentage markup modes do exist on job templates (in the template's invoicing settings), where they apply at the job level rather than per catalog item.
